At EID, people are the foundation of what is our company. EID is a combination of their stories, experiences, and passions, which allow us to continue to grow and take innovative approaches to what we deliver. In this section, we introduce the members of our team, those whose commitment and dedication shape EID into what it is today.
Today, we have the pleasure of talking with Cidália Gameiro, a Software Engineer at EID. Her inspiring journey offers us a unique perspective on the growth and success of our company over the years.
- Since you joined EID in 2001, you’ve worked on various projects. Can you highlight a project that you found particularly challenging and rewarding at the same time? What were the main lessons learnt from this experience?
Since I started with EID 23 years ago, I’ve had the fortune of being involved in many challenging and rewarding projects at EID. The first project I worked on, when I joined the company, was the PRC-525 tactical radio that was in the testing phase for the initial software release. I participated in lab tests and in the preparation and execution of field tests. These experiences, along with the support of the radio team, allowed me to learn a lot about short and long-distance communications across different terrain profiles. With each new software released, the radios gained new functionalities, as well as new capabilities, which needed to be studied, tested, and validated for our customers. I was also involved in training future trainers, conducting field acceptance tests, and supporting various military exercises. These experiences have given me a broad knowledge of radio frequency communications and an understanding of customer needs. - EID has always valued innovation and continuous improvement. As a software engineer, which emerging technologies or trends do you see as the most promising for the future of our industry, and how do you think EID can prepare to keep pace with these changes?
Artificial Intelligence is one of the most well-known emerging technologies. AI is coming and is only here to stay and assist us in doing our job. Implementing AI in our products and services is crucial to improving them, making communications more intelligible, secure, and providing real-time data to enable quick decision-making. Also the technologies for radio frequency communications with IP services are essential at all levels of military operations and in interoperability between armed forces and other nations. There are various standards being improved and developed, and we need to deepen our understanding of them to provide better support and services to our clients. The needs to adapt by training both senior and junior staff to develop these skills and bring in young talent with new energy to explore these complex technologies. - Collaboration and teamwork are fundamental to the success of any business. Could you share your perspective on the importance of collaborative work at EID in general and in the software area where you work? How do you think teamwork contributes to the success of projects?
In the software area, the team has various types of expertise, including software, system, client-server application engineers, and software testers, among others. Without the work and knowledge of everyone involved, achieving successful projects would be impossible. Developing such complex products and systems requires contributions from the entire R&D department. It is crucial that all company members work collaboratively and trust one another to ensure the success of our products and achieve customer satisfaction and trust. - Over the years and following the internal transformations that have occurred, you must have a broad view of the company’s culture and environment. Can you share what you value most about EID as a workplace that could be motivating for those considering applying for a position at EID?
What really motivates me at EID is primarily the family-like atmosphere of the company, in addition to the project challenges. The family environment that we’ve built over many years of employees working together in projects. Even some of the newer employees have integrated into this large family. This is reflected in the daily work environment. I have always felt a strong sense of mutual support at work, which is why I try to cultivate a good atmosphere and strong friendships within and beyond the company’s walls.
